Convolution windows optimization and application for equidistant antenna arrays with digital signal processing

Abstract

A novel family of weighting windows with integer value factors is introduced. These windows can be used as apodization functions for improvement of equidistant antenna array pattern characteristics if weighting is performed by specialized digital devices. Proposed windows are the convolutions of step-like components. The corresponding patterns are optimized using their maximal side lobe level minimization as a criterion. Several properties of the resulting apodization functions and patterns are considered from different points of view.
