We study the process of self-excitation of a chain of active devices (particularly Gunn diodes) in a semi-infinite one-dimensional transmission line supporting the dispersionless propagation of TEM waves. A general self-consistent formulation of the problem is presented. Computer simulations have been performed in the limiting case of infinitesimal intrinsic times of the devices. The possibility and limitations of power combining in a one-dimensional chain of active devices have been considered.References
